THE BRAND

Think of a brand that you like, any brand. Got it? Great. Now think of the logo, title, colors, and themes throughout this brand, and as you’re doing so, I want you to begin noticing the feeling these images, recollections, or items bring up.

Once you have that feeling, name it and sit with it for a moment.

Chances are, the feeling isnt one singular, identifiable, adjective to describe whats going on when you think of this brand; its not an isolated “joy”, or “put together”, its a longing to be experiencing joy, or a desire to embody the visible confidence that business professional carries with them effortlessly when seen walking in one of their ads.

These emotions of longing and desire can often times create an urgency within us, and on a deeper level esteem that we too can suffuse ourselves with the desired quality, if we acquire part of the brand.

Enter the Brand Archetype.

As I gaze at the ad of an interior design brand, scanning the lovely home they’ve staged so diligently, I allow my mind to wonder. I question “is it the pillow with the floral motif that I want to buy, or is it the feeling of comfort, just existing in this tranquil space that I am longing for?”

My dopamine screams “the pillow!”

So with this, I would like to invite you to bring to mind that brand you thought of, notice the item you hope to acquire and open up to the question “what feeling am I hoping this will give me?”

and possible “what is it that I am longing for?”
